People like “second hand faith.” It is safe and easy. You just float along with the crowd. Not bad! Trouble is, in the end it fails you!

You won’t make it to Heaven on “second hand faith!” The faith of your mother, father or a good friend will simply not do it. Each of us must make the choice to follow Jesus in our own life. Jesus wants each of us to choose Him, but he will not force us to make that choice.

I don’t recall if my heart skipped a few beats, or began operating at high speed after the cloud of dust from the logging truck had enveloped us. As we disappeared into the thick, brown cloud, I held my breath and closed my eyes—and hung on! It appeared that my pal, who was driving this old beater of a vehicle, was standing on the brake pedal while hoping to keep us on the road at the same time.

Not only had we disappeared into the thick cloud of dust that was being raised by the truck, the clamor of sound as we passed him was nearly deafening! As the noise of the truck began to fade behind us, I felt a wave of relief sweep over me that we had not collided with the huge truck. I began to squint through half-closed eyelids, hoping to see if we were still on the road. The tears had already been streaming from my eyes as a result of the open-air ride we were enjoying; now there was a mixture of grit and mud that seemed to be blurring my vision. But the dust was clearing! We were still on the road!

“Wow!’ my pal yelled over the noise of the engine, “That was kinda’ scary!”

I responded with a very well-thought out response, “Yeh!”

My pal continued to slow the “car” down, and as we approached a turn-off along the road, he pulled to the side and came to a stop.

“Whew!” he uttered as he shut the rig off and jumped to the ground. As I watched, he bent over and began running his hands back and forth through his hair, apparently trying to get the dust out. After a moment he stood up and began slapping his shirt to remove some of the dust that he had collected as we passed the truck.

With my heartbeat finally beginning to slow down, I stood up and stepped onto the running board of the old car, before jumping to the ground. I looked at my arms and realized I too, was covered with a thick layer of dust. It looked as if the only thing that was going to clean the two of us up was a good deal of water! We both needed a good “cleaning!”

Numerous times in the Bible we find the subject of cleansing being spoken of. Most often it has to do with the cleansing or “cleaning,” of a person’s heart that results in the assurance of Heaven and a relationship with Jesus Christ. In the New Testament, in the little short book of 1 John, we find verse nine in chapter one, “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”

That is a truth that will absolutely change the life of every person who is willing to accept it—and believe it! It will bring about a cleansing of heart and soul that changes a person’s life in such a way that it can never be forgotten. There is nothing quite like it! It comes with the choice to accept Jesus at his word!

Lord, thank you for loving us so much that you made a way available to each of us through which we can have a relationship with you, and can live life with the assurance that, when we leave this earth, we will step into Heaven and an eternity with you! You care about us! You desire to have a personal relationship with each one of us! Thank you, Lord. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

When Christ walked upon this earth he disturbed people. When He had contact with them, they were never again the same. He still “disturbs” people today. And when you have contact with him, you are never again the same!
